Overview

After a booking is made, the yard or depot needs written authority to hand over empty containers. In Sailix that is a release request raised against the booking, which some desks call an export DO. It records the release date and validity, the agent, an optional surveyor, the pickup yard, stuffing location, transport code and the container types and counts to be released.

The request downloads as a Container Release Order PDF, laid out as a letter under your agency name and branch office with booking, port, rotation and cut-off details and the terms printed on it. The same data exports to Excel. Status moves from pending through confirmed, approved and issued to completed, and cancelling a request returns its containers to available stock.

Capabilities

What it does

  • PDF and Excel output

Download the release order as a letter-style PDF or as an Excel workbook with separate sheets for container types, container details and IMCO details.

  • Temperature and IMCO details

Enter minimum and maximum temperature with the unit against a container type, plus IMCO code, UN number and IMDG details for dangerous cargo.

  • Out of gauge dimensions

Mark a container as out of gauge and record the top, left, right, front and back overhang in centimeters, with remarks for the yard.

  • Optional container numbers

Release by container type and count alone, or name specific container numbers and seal numbers when they are already known.

  • Controlled status steps

Pending, confirmed, approved, issued, completed. Sailix accepts only the next step or a cancellation from each status and rejects any other change.

  • Stock returned on cancel

Cancelling a release request gives its containers back to available stock in the same transaction, so nothing stays reserved against a dead request.

Workflow

How it works

  1. First

    Select the booking

Choose the booking reference and Sailix displays the booking information the release will be raised against.

  2. Then

    Add release details

Set the release date, validity, agent, surveyor, pickup yard, stuffing location and the container types and counts to release.

  3. Next

    Confirm and download

Confirm the pending request, download the PDF or Excel file and pass it to the yard.

  4. Finally

    Record the pickup

In Container Pick Confirm, the release requests for that pickup yard are listed so the picked containers can be recorded against them.

Questions

Questions and answers

Can I download a container release order in Excel as well as PDF?

Yes. Each release request has a download menu with both formats. The PDF is the letter layout the yard gate reads. The Excel file holds the same header, customer, route and agent information, with further sheets for container types, container details and IMCO details where those exist.

Can I edit a release request after it is confirmed?

No. Editing is allowed only while the request is pending, and Sailix refuses an edit in any later status. After confirmation the request moves forward through approved, issued and completed, or it is cancelled. Completed and cancelled are final.

What happens to the containers if a release request is cancelled?

Sailix releases them back to available stock as part of the cancellation, so the inventory count and the request status change together. Cancelled requests are also left out of the list offered in Container Pick Confirm, so nobody picks against them.

Do I need container numbers before raising a release request?

No. A release request can be raised with container types and counts only, which is the usual case when the yard chooses the units. If you do enter container details, Sailix checks the number of containers per type against the container type list on the request.
