Container control

Overview

Container Inventory in Sailix is a command center with four views of the same filtered stock: a dashboard of distributions, a table of units, a timeline of recent movements and a schematic network map. Filters for location category, port, load state and condition apply to all four, so switching view never changes which containers you are looking at.

The masters behind it sit in the same menu. Container Types hold sizes, ISO codes, dimensions and weights. Container Master registers each unit against a line and a location. The storage location master defines the terminals, depots, ICDs and CFSs that stock can sit in. Container Query pulls up one container's history.

Capabilities

What it does

  • Four views, one filter

Dashboard, table, timeline and map all draw the same filtered set of containers, so the counts agree wherever you look.

  • Port and facility rail

A side rail lists each operating port with counts by location type and by named facility. Click any level to scope the whole screen to it.

  • Load and condition flags

Filter by empty or laden, and flag units that are under repair, not assigned to a location, or idle for ten days or more.

  • Container and type masters

Register containers against a line, type and location, and maintain container types with ISO codes, dimensions, tare weight and payload capacity.

  • Storage location master

Define port terminals, depots, ICDs, CFSs and customer locations per port, each with a status, so movements and inventory use the same place names.

  • Container query

Enter a container number to see its status timeline, every recorded movement, and the bookings and import jobs it has been part of.

Workflow

How it works

  1. First

    Set up the masters

Create container types and storage locations, then register containers in Container Master against their line and location.

  2. Then

    Open the inventory

Go to Container Inventory. Tiles show counts per location category and the rail shows stock per port.

  3. Next

    Narrow the view

Filter by port, facility, load state or flag, or search by unit number, line or facility name.

  4. Finally

    Act on a unit

Open a container to see its recent movements, mark it available or flag it for repair, or export the visible rows to CSV.

Questions

Questions and answers

How does Sailix know where a container is?

From recorded movements. Each movement, such as a discharge, gate-in, pick or empty return, carries a status and a storage location. Inventory then places the container in a category: port or terminal, CFS, ICD, depot, in movement or to consignee. It is not satellite tracking.

Can I see container stock by port and depot?

Yes. The inventory rail lists every port your agency operates, including ports holding nothing, and breaks each one down by location type and named facility. The dashboard adds a units-by-port chart and a heatmap of ports against location categories.

Does the inventory map show live container positions?

No. The map is a schematic of your network, not a geographic or GPS view. Ports are drawn as nodes sized by the stock they hold. It answers how much is where, based on the movements your team has recorded in Sailix.

Can I export the container inventory?

Yes. The export button downloads the rows currently visible under your filters as a CSV file. Under Reports, Sailix also has a Container Stock Report and an Empty Stock Position report that group containers by location, movement and container type.
