Freight forwarding

Overview

Air Freight Documentation holds the House AWB a forwarding desk issues against a job. The waybill has one header for the relation to the job, the parties, routing, accounting information and the request details, with three grids under it: cargo rate lines, piece dimensions, and the due carrier and due agent charges.

Sailix does the arithmetic. Chargeable weight is the greater of gross weight and volume converted at 166.67 kg per cubic meter. A cargo line's total is chargeable weight times rate, and every charge line's local amount is its foreign currency amount times the exchange rate. Prepaid and collect totals follow from the grids.

Capabilities

What it does

  • Related or standalone AWBs

A related AWB takes its customer, parties, agents and ports from the forwarding booking. A non related AWB stands alone, with the customer entered on the waybill.

  • Cargo rate lines

Enter pieces, gross weight, volume, rate class and rate per package type. Sailix derives the chargeable weight and the line total.

  • Piece dimensions

Record quantity, length, width and height per row. Sailix calculates volume and volumetric weight, and checks the quantities against the piece count.

  • Due carrier and agent

Keep due carrier and due agent charges in separate grids by tariff item, each marked prepaid or collect, with its own currency and exchange rate.

  • Prepaid and collect summary

The charge summary totals weight charge, valuation charge, tax, due agent and due carrier amounts into a prepaid column and a collect column.

  • Number and duplicate checks

Sailix warns when an AWB number is not 12 characters long, and refuses a number already used by another air waybill in your organization.

Workflow

How it works

  1. First

    Choose the relation

Select related or non related, pick the booking for a related AWB, and let the job fill the customer, parties and ports.

  2. Then

    Enter routing and accounting

Complete the first carrier, load and destination ports, currency, handling information, date of issue, and the other charge and CHGS codes.

  3. Next

    Add cargo and dimensions

Copy the cargo line from the job or type it, add the rate, then enter the piece dimensions behind it.

  4. Finally

    Add charges and save

Enter the due carrier and due agent lines, review the prepaid and collect totals, and save the waybill.

Questions

Questions and answers

How is chargeable weight calculated on a House AWB?

Sailix takes the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight, where the volume in cubic meters is multiplied by 166.67 kg. Dimension rows are converted to cubic meters first. The cargo line total is then the chargeable weight multiplied by the line rate.

Can I raise a House AWB that is not linked to a job?

Yes. Choose Non Related AWB and the waybill stands alone: it carries no booking, and you enter the customer and the AWB number yourself. A related AWB is tied to a forwarding booking and takes the customer, parties, agents and ports from that job.

What does Sailix validate before saving a House AWB?

It requires the AWB number, customer, shipper and consignee with addresses, agent details, date of issue, currency, load and destination ports and first carrier. There must be at least one cargo line with a rate and one dimension line, and dimension quantities must equal the piece count.

Does Sailix send House AWB data to airlines?

No. The House AWB is a record kept in Sailix. It stores the waybill face, cargo, dimensions and charges, and you can mark whether the AWB is for a customer or an air line, but the screen does not transmit messages to airlines or connect to airline systems.
